Coming from the sea, approach to the R.N.S.Y.C.:

Ostend with its high tower blocks stands out starkly along the flat and bland coastline of Belgium. Approaching from England one should head for the Kwintebank buoy seven miles north west of the entrance, then head east for a mile and half to the Middelkerke bank buoy north before turning south east for Ostend entrance.

At night all buoys are lit and there is a powerful set of leading lights bearing 128° guiding you into the entrance. Ostend lighthouse on de easternside (FL3 every 10 sec) has a range of 25 miles. Entrance to the harbour is controled by the international port light signals at the pier head but Port Control should be contacted prior to entering on channel 9.

The signals are backed up by an amber flashing light wich means that priority traffic is under way.

Coming from the Netherlands through Knokke:

Take the N34, pass the new tunnel under the harbour. At the roundabout take the first road to the right. Follow this narrow road until a small roundabout, go straight on through a small tunnel, straight on till the “Mercatordok”, around the right side of the dock, over the bridge, to the right around the museum trawler “Amandine”, follow the Visserskaai untill the last dock and enter the Montgomerykaai.

Coming from Brussels:

Follow the E40/A10 until the end. At the roundabout follow the direction of Ferries. At the next roundabout again take direction Ferries, at the ferry entrance go straight on over the bridge, then to the right around the museum trawler “Amandine”, follow the Visserskaai until the last dock and enter the Montgomerykaai.

Coming from France by the E40/A18:

Follow the E40/A18 until gate n°5 Gistel/Airport Ostend, take direction Oostende. Follow the road “Torhoutsesteenweg” N33 until you see direction Brussel R33, follow this road until a roundabout and take the direction of Ferries. At the next roundabout again take direction Ferries, at the ferry entrance go straight on over the Bridge, then to the right around the museum trawler “Amandine”, follow the Visserkaai until the last dock and enter the Montgomerykaai.
